Dead Superiors

There have been other Archangels and Demon Princes in the past. Most dead Superiors were casualties in the War. The number of deceased Princes is far greater than the number of deceased Archangels; the Seraphim Council (or occasionally God) elevates a new Archangel only when needed, which is rare. Lucifer, on the other hand, is known to create new Princes for political reasons, trying to make sure the balance of power in Hell remains in flux. Less than a third of all new Princes survive more than a century; some are foolish enough to be caught in a confrontation with the Host, while the rest usually get taken down by their fellow Princes.

These Superiors are mostly of historical interest, but there are a few angels and demons still alive who once served one of them, and might still retain attunements from a dead Superior.

Deceased Archangels

  • Metatron -- the Voice. Slain by Lucifer before he began the Rebellion.
  • Oannes -- Archangel of Oceans. Slain by Belial thousands of years ago.
  • Raphael -- Archangel of Knowledge. Slain during the battle with Legion.
  • Uriel -- Archangel of Purity, and second commander of the Host. Recalled to the Higher Heavens by God after the Purity Crusade, and has not been seen since. His loyalist followers, the Tsayadim, still haunt the Marches.

Deceased Princes

  • Abellam -- Prince of Madness. Tried for treason by Asmodeus, and executed.
  • Beelzubub -- The first Prince of Corruption. Slain by Uriel.
  • Dagon -- Prince of the Sea. Killed by Oannes.
  • Demogorgon -- Prince of Destruction. Killed by Belial.
  • Gebbeleth -- the first Prince of Secrets. Disappeared thousands of years ago, fate unknown.
  • Genubath -- Prince of Rapine. "Disappeared" just prior to the crowning of Valefor.
  • Izrann -- Prince of Cities. Reduced in power by Baal and Belial, then killed by the Host (reportedly after being set up).
  • Legion -- The second Prince of Corruption. Slain in a battle involving many Archangels and Princes.
  • Magog -- Prince of Cruelty. Supposedly destroyed by angels of Stone in prehistoric times.
  • Makatiel -- Prince of Disease. He went renegade, and Heaven claims he was slain by angels of Judgment. Hell claims he was slain by demons of the Game. In both camps it is whispered that Judgment and the Game actually cooperated to trap and destroy the renegade Prince.
  • Mariel -- Princess of Oblivion. Eaten by Haagenti during his rise to power.
  • Meserach -- Prince of Sloth. Eaten by Haagenti during his rise to power.

Other Princes that have come and gone over the millenia include:

Hunger, Famine, Spite, Covetousness, Ice, Monsters, Filth, Plague, Darkness, Murder, Pain.
